Meticulously torn bits of hand-painted papers, delicately put together, form the exceptionally vibrant collages created by Artist Elizabeth St. Hilaire Nelson. Richard Colvin, curator for the Maitland Art Center says, "Elizabeth St. Hilaire Nelson's artworks have a fresh quality that belies the way they are constructed." Nelson's "Paper Paintings" were featured in a solo exhibition at Maitland Art Center (September, 2010) called Exquisite Harmony.
A First Place Winner in the category of collage for The Artist's Magazine (2010), Nelson also received a Professional Development Grant from United Arts of Central Florida (her second) in 2010. This tremendously versatile Artist also currently plays the violin with the Maitland Symphony Orchestra, and works as a professional graphic designer. These other interests inspire all aspects of her creative mind and give her a unique perspective as a visual artist.
On Mother's day of 2009 St. Hilaire Nelson completed her first sprint distance triathlon, The Danskin Women's, at Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL with her sister. The following September she competed in the TREK Women's triathlon, and in 2010 she completed the Danskin a second time. Pushing herself further and faster, she ran her first half marathon at Walt Disney World in October 2010. The goal for 2011? A full Olympic distance triathlon!
